Course Description
Students will cover a very broad range of topics including, centrifugal pumps, selection and replacement of packing, seals, hydraulics, operating conditions, preventative maintenance, motors, plans and specifications, hazard types, plant equipment and procedures, lab safety and fire prevention, and hazard communications.

- Identify pumps by classification.
- Identify some basic pump components.
- Discuss how to prepare for major repairs.
- Discuss how pump conditions affect the performance of pumps.
- Explain why a plant maintenance program is necessary.
- Explain why safety is important when dealing with electricity.
- Explain the basic formula for determining flow.
- Describe the steps that can be taken to prevent the transmission of infectious disease from the treatment plant worker to his/her family.
- List several ways to alert traffic when you are working in a street.
- Discuss what you should do if you open a door and smell chlorine or sulfur dioxide.
